The source for Reality Stream was born in 2002, when the movie 'Spider-Man' came out. Mindy immediatly loved it, and launched into an attempt at fanfiction called "Lock and Key", which turned into a blatant self-insert but she wasn't a Mary Sue (no lie), and is one of the few fanfiction she's already finished and so was very proud of it at the time. She can't find an incact copy of it anymore, which may or may not show her opinions on it now. In any case, after which she was inspired to write more, and she actually has the first bit of the sequel. In any case, both she - "Key" - and her alter-ego, Monica/"Locke", were in there. They were going to a few other dimensions including the Moonlands, but she flaked and never finished it.

Recently, her boyfriend, Brad, has gotten her interested in doing a webcomic based on Everquest II. Though they still plan to do it, Mindy wondered about making her own webcomic, any way, any style, any story she wanted, and looked back on her past for ideas. She wanted something...epic. Something where anything could happen. Something that she could stick with.

The first sketch relating to the new webcomic was of Locke's new outfit, as the one she had in the Spider-Man fanfiction was way too...er...lame, in both of their opinions. Said sketch has since been lost, but many elements were incorporated into Locke's final design. Mindy planned to use both characters - "Locke" and "Key" - but she didn't want them to be the focus. She decided on a young man, similar but in many ways different, and couldn't think of a name for a bit until saying 'screw it' and naming him after Keith Richards. Which is also true, canonically.

Reality Stream is, at heart, an experiment. It's not only to see if Mindy can keep up a steady schedule, but to see if she can improve on her style and technique.
